3 Beaches to visit in Lagos

Algarve is internationally known for its wonderful beaches and its climate, and in Lagos, there are several that will certainly be part of your happy memories after visiting them. In this article, we highlight three, and invite you to take a moment of your vacation to enjoy the pleasant environment they provide.

Praia de Dona Ana

It was named after a nun who survived a massacre. Her name was Ana, and she lived in the Convent of Nuns in Lagos. It is said that during World War I, the soldiers invaded the convent and murdered all the nuns living there, except for one – Ana, who had access to a tunnel that ended at the beach and saved her life.

Praia de Dona Ana is located in an area commonly known as Costa D'Oiro (Gold Coast), thanks to the golden color of the rocks that surround the beach. In addition to providing a unique beauty to the beach, these rocks also protect the sand from the wind, and offer shade to the visitors. The sea is quite calm, and the water is clear and clean, making it the perfect place for diving.

Praia dos Estudantes

Praia dos Estudantes, directly translated to “Students’ Beach” and also known as Praia da Formosa, is a small beach, and like Praia de Dona Ana, is surrounded by rock formations that shelter it from strong winds and dangerous currents.

The beach is accessible through a staircase, and despite its name, is perfect for all ages. In fact, it is particularly appreciated among families because of the peaceful atmosphere lived here – kids can play at will, although it is not recommended to neglect supervision.

Praia do Pinhão

Famous for its picturesque scenery, this beach is equally special and beautiful for the rocks that cut through it.

Praia do Pinhão is just after Praia de Dona Ana and there is actually a walking trail that connects the two, running along the top of the cliff. Its area is small, and here you will also find a huge natural arch, and a belvedere with a stairway down to the sea.

The dives at Praia do Pinhão are inviting, and despite being close to the city, it is a relatively quiet area, especially in the morning.
